Sewanee Scenes

View from The Cross
Evening Falls on Breslin Tower

"End of Summer"

"All Saint's Chapel"

"Entering the Quad"

"Welcome to Abbo's Alley"

This summer Bill and I traveled to The University of the South, Sewanee each week. He knocked out walls in the old barn of my daughter's 100 year old farmhouse while I painted. The Gothic architecture of the University and the splendor of nature on the mountain provided a plethora of subjects for my canvas.

Country Community

I often paint with the Chestnut Group in Tennessee. This en plein air work depicts a quaint scene is in Leiper's Fork, Tennessee. The city boosts "a rural atmosphere and charm of country life near Nashville and Franklin." It is a Registered National Historic District and contains some of the few remaining examples of late 19th century architecture once characteristic of villages in Williamson County.

Just before Sunset

Bill and I spend about half of the year at our condominium in Naples, Florida. This is my view from the balcony in the evenings. My daughter says that a photo of artwork does not capture the brushstrokes, colors, shadows, and other nuances of the original oil painting. In the same vein, a painting does not fully capture the spectacular artwork of God and nature.

The Cliffs of Mohar

This original oil portrays the beautiful cliffs for which Ireland is known. I photographed this on a trip to Ireland with my sons. What a memorable trip!

Pastel Day

Radnor Lake 11x14 oil

Simple Colors

English Birdhouse

I loved this scene in Mike and Elyn's English Garden. The composition of the lavender and white flowers were perfect for this 9x12 oil.

Wild Summer Bouquet

This 8x10 oil painted at Radnor Lake has been sold. The unusual colors of the flowers were irresistable.

Springtime in Radnor #2

This 8x10 oil, and its companion painting, are for sale.

Springtime at Radnor #1

Radnor Lake in Nashville Tennessee is one of my favorite spots to paint. This 9x12 oil painting has a companion. "Springtime at Radnor #2"

Lunchtime

This luncheon scence was inspired on a great trip to England. Upon my return to the States, I painted the 11x14 oil from a photograph.

Beauty of the Mountains

I painted this 11x14 oil from the porch of Gideon Ridge in Blowing Rock, North Carolina. In the cold morning the haze was a beautiful contrast to the bright mountain colors. It has been sold.

Summer's Garden

"Summer's Garden" 11x14 Oil
I painted this lovely scene at home of my son Mike and his wife Elyn in Charlotte, North Carolina. I couldn't resist the gate and the beautiful colors of the summer flowers. It has been sold.

In for Lunch

This is a scene from the dock in Naples, Florida. I was walking through the shops when I noticed that the fishermen's boats were docked so the men could come in to eat lunch. I was struck by the beauty of the boats against the noon sky.

Subtle Color

The original version of this painting did not have the moon. However, I felt as if the look of the painting was too dark, and eventually added the moon to soften the look. Subtle Color was part of an exhibit in New York at the Amsterdam Whitney last fall
